The Youth of Sienchem in Ahafo Region have appealed to the government to rubbish some comments made by their chief on the town’s development because the comments are completely untrue and mere propaganda for the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

According to the angry youth their Chief, Nana Boffour Anin III on 25th February 2020 during the visit of NDC Flagbearer on his “Speakout Tour” at Sienchem expressed that the town is well developed in all sectors so there is no need for the current government to put up any developmental project for the people. He again categorically said all developmental projects seen at Sienchem were done by the NDC so the party is the best for his people.

At a press conference the Leader of the angry youth of Sienchem, Mr. Stephan Obengfo Ababio explained that the youth is extremely shocked to hear such statement from their leader because when it comes to development, Sienchem lacks many basic amenities to make the living conditions of the people better although the government is putting efforts to adhere to their call.

Mr. Stephan Obengfo Ababio stated that the community with a population of over 6000 is not having adequate portable water system for their daily activities and the main source of water to them belongs to the Roman Catholic Church.

He revealed that the District Chief Executive of Asutifi South where Sienchem falls within has cut the sod for the building of a mechanised borehole which will serve the people.

Currently, the two boreholes for public use are dysfunctional and people are getting skin rashes due to the state of unhygienic

On the issue of security, He disclosed that a community like Sienchem which is prone to all forms of criminal activities especially when general elections is approaching can not boast of one.

He said, Former Member of Parliament(MP), Madam Cecilia Amoah – Gyan who belongs to the New Patriotic Party(NPP) was able to secure a plot of land for the construction of police station but the NDC party with its eight years as the government was unable to build it which is a shame.

Now the current DCE, Mr. Robert Dwomoh Mensah has presented 50 bags of cement towards the police station project.

Other challenges the people of Sienchem which is tagged by Nana Boffour Anin III as a well-developed community in the country confront are lack of market, community centre and an inadequate public toilet.

Siechem is a farming community but there is no marketplace to assist the farmers to sell their foodstuffs appropriately to boost their lives.

Aside from this, the people do not have enough public toilet facilities and has led to open defecation which is so dangerous to the health of the people. On community centre matter the people can not have fun which is essential to the development of human being and it so offensive.

Speaking on NPP not playing a major role when it comes to the development of Sienchem, Mr. Ababio stressed that the NPP government built teacher’s quarters which solved a major educational problem.

He said teachers were not accepting posting due to the lack of accommodation but the introduction of the quarters has yielded good results where teachers now accept posting to Sienchem.

He said the NPP government also constructed a school block for the primary school at the time the population was increasing and the community was in need of such structure badly.

Youth of Ahafo Sienchem showing their displeasure of comments made by their chief.

He further explained them MP(Cecilia Amoah – Gyan) who served only one term in office(2000 – 2004) secured electricity poles and cables to help the people to be connected to the national grid.

To them, the government is doing a lot for them to improve their living conditions. School feeding programme, people being enrolled in cocoa mass spraying, afforestation, cocoa pollination cocoa pruning among others are some of the areas of benefit to them.

Due to this, the youth is saying their chief was politically motivated to make such utterances which if care is not taking government, companies and individuals will not assist them.
