Toronto police charged a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old for the murder of Dwayne McMillan, the city’s 82nd homicide victim.
McMillan was found at Keele St. and Steeles Ave. West on Oct. 2 with no vital signs after police responded to a shooting call at around 9:36 p.m. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they arrested Jahnoye Carpenter, a 19-year-old male from Toronto, for one count of second degree murder and one count of arson.
A 16-year-old boy was also arrested at the same time on the same charges. He cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
McMillan’s friend Casey Milligan, who worked with him for two years at a security job, said he was an “one of the nicest guys” he’s ever met.
“He was polite and very respectful and would always listen well, engaging in conversation,” said Milligan. “He was truly a gentleman.”
Both suspects set to appear in court at Finch Ave. West on Friday at 10 a.m.
